Every weekend, hundreds of people in hundreds of cars, with one, two or maybe four people per car, head to nearby cities like Chicago and Indy to fight traffic into town, pay to park downtown, shop like crazy, visit museums or art events and then head back home, exhausted. Each car leaves its own little carbon footprint — a situation that could be corrected if a bunch of us simply loaded into one big vehicle and shared the transport. Thanks to Grassroots Green’s partnership with Citilink, we can travel smarter and in style: aboard buses. On-bus movie options, clean toilets and comfy seats await you. Here are your opportunities:
August 2008 to Indianapolis You’ll be on your own to shop or visit the Indiana State Fair, the Radical Lace and Subversive Knitting exhibit at the Indiana State Museum, the Hats of Africa or Egyptian Treasures from the Brooklyn Museum exhibits at the Indianapolis Museum of Art or the Yosemite exhibit at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art or something different with the Drum Corps International Championships.
October 2008 Fall Eco Tour We’ll have a “green” and fall-color tour of northeast Indiana. We will meet at Sweetwater Sound for a tour, leave our cars at Sweetwater, then go by bus to visit Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center and visit ACRES land preserves for a stroll and picnic lunch.
December 2008 to Downtown Chicago We will leave at 8:00 a.m. to arrive in Chicago for lunch. There will be an optional tour of the Chicago Green Tech Center, or you can just make your own schedule. We’ll re-board in Chicago at 10:00 p.m. and relax all the way to Fort Wayne.
