Downsizing to a Green Piece |
|
by Eric Fisher
Our family has chosen to live in about one-quarter of the space we used to occupy, and we don’t regret it at all. Selling our 4,000-square-foot home, we moved into a 1,100-square-foot downtown condo at Midtowne Crossing. A growing realization that we are accountable for the values we teach our children and a spiritual awakening to the excess of our lifestyle is what led us to pursue the simple life. To be sure, we miss some of our former luxuries, but we are learning to take more joy in the simple tasks of life — such as walking to the store, washing dishes by hand and using public places instead of wanting to own them. We are enjoying our lightened workload, smaller “footprint” and increased charity budget. Without the maintenance and stress of a large spread, we are enjoying peace in our smaller piece of the planet.
