John Steinbach In 2006, I started paying a lot more attention to scientists’ warnings about climate change, deforestation, species loss and other environmental issues. Something shifted inside, and I knew I had to do something. My wife, Pamela, and I started looking for changes we could make at home, and we took action. But the changes seemed so small and isolated. I took inventory of the skills I had developed in over 20 years as a consultant, speaker, writer and trainer and decided to throw all the time and energy I could into environmental work. Pamela and I began talking with people we knew. In the process, we were introduced to new people, and the ideas, not to mention a newfound energy, began to flow. In a few months, we saw very real and wonderful results: a Green Living Guide, a Green Organization Challenge and a fantastic website came into the world. This is the hardest, most meaningful and best work I’ve done in my life, and I thank everyone who’s been involved, including you, the reader of this website. Together, we can help keep our wonderful planet healthy for generations to come. Pamela Steinbach Floating in my kayak on water reflecting the moon, I can almost feel the pulse of other beings coursing through the millennia. It’s this sense of place and connection that inspires my work with Grassroots Green. And it links us now with you, as you read this Grassroots Green website, created to encourage us all to respond to the crisis facing our planet. As a freelance writer and editor, I am pleased to have helped produce a website that inspires and empowers you to make changes both big and small for the good of our environment. As a consultant and coach, I’ve presented training workshops and helped organizations as well as individuals plan their futures. I hope you will find in these pages a wealth of ideas for actions to grow this grassroots effort into a groundswell of activity preserving Earth’s balance. |
